Love the Skin You Live In: A Guide to Healthy Skin Care

Your skin deserves care every day.

At Aqua Marine Wellness & Spa, we look at skin health through a wider lens. What you put on your skin matters, but so does how you nourish your body, enjoy the outdoors, hydrate and make time to recover.

Our medical clinic, skin specialists and wellness team bring these conversations together,

helping you build a routine that suits your skin and your life.

Healthy skin care starts with steady daily habits.

Sunshine and skin health — finding your balance

There is something beautiful about stepping outside into the morning light. Taking a breath, enjoying a gentle walk and giving yourself a moment before the day begins.

Sunshine can be part of a healthy life. Morning daylight helps set our body clock, supporting the rhythm of wakefulness and sleep. You can enjoy this benefit with your skin protected — there is no need to sunbathe or look directly at the sun.

The balance comes from understanding the difference between daylight and ultraviolet radiation.

UV radiation helps our skin produce vitamin D, but too much damages skin and increases the risk of skin cancer. Most Australians get sufficient exposure through everyday outdoor activities. If you spend very little time outdoors or are concerned about vitamin D, speak with your doctor about your individual needs. Increasing unprotected sun exposure is not the recommended way to address a deficiency.

We want you to feel confident enjoying the outdoors, with habits that protect your skin along the way.

Let the UV Index guide you

Early morning and late afternoon are often lovely times to be outside, with lower UV levels than the middle of the day. But the clock alone cannot tell you whether protection is needed — particularly here in Queensland.

Check the UV Index and local sun-protection times. When UV reaches 3 or above, use sun protection. Extended outdoor exposure and reflective surfaces, including water, also call for extra care. A cool breeze or cloudy sky does not guarantee low UV.

Both UVA and UVB can damage skin. UVA contributes to premature ageing, while UVB is a major cause of sunburn; both contribute to skin-cancer risk.

Choose shade, protective clothing, a broad-brimmed hat, sunglasses and broad-spectrum, water-resistant SPF50 or SPF50+ sunscreen. Reapply sunscreen every two hours outdoors and after swimming, sweating or towel-drying. These habits belong alongside your wellness routine.

Your largest organ deserves thoughtful care

Your skin is your body’s largest organ and an essential protective barrier.

Some ingredients can pass through the skin, but it does not absorb everything we apply in the same way. The formulation, concentration and condition of your skin all matter.

That is why we encourage thoughtful product choices: ingredients with a clear purpose,

formulas suited to your skin and a routine that supports its barrier. A product can be natural and still cause irritation. Quality means looking beyond the label and understanding what your skin actually needs.

At Aqua Marine, we can help you simplify that process.

Why we choose Synergie Skin

Synergie Skin is the skincare range we recommend at Aqua Marine. We value its Australian formulation expertise and its Clean Science® philosophy, which combines selected naturally derived ingredients with laboratory science and evidence-informed formulation. Clean Science® is Synergie’s trademarked approach, rather than a blanket guarantee that every ingredient suits every person.

Two products we love discussing with our clients are:

  • ÜberZinc, a daily moisturiser containing 21% zinc oxide, labelled broad-spectrum SPF15 PA+++.

  • ÜberZinc Body, a moisturising body lotion containing 25% zinc oxide.

Zinc oxide is a mineral UV filter that can protect against both UVA and UVB. It can be a useful option for people who prefer mineral formulas, and ÜberZinc is formulated to moisturise and help calm the appearance of redness. The complete formula still matters, especially for sensitive skin.

The zinc percentage does not tell you the SPF of a finished product. We value ÜberZinc as part of a daily skincare routine. When UV levels reach 3 or above, choose broad-spectrum, water-resistant SPF50 or SPF50+ sunscreen alongside shade, protective clothing, a hat and sunglasses. Talk to our team about how your skincare fits into a complete sun-protection plan.

Read the label with your skin in mind

At Aqua Marine, we want you to feel confident about what you put on your skin. If your

sunscreen leaves you feeling dry, tight, itchy or irritated, the formula may not suit you.

A few ingredients deserve closer attention, particularly for sensitive skin:

  • Fragrance or parfum: Added scent can trigger irritation or contact allergy. Fragrance-free formulas are often a better starting point for sensitive skin.

  • Alcohol denat. or ethanol: These can feel drying or sting some sensitive skins, particularly in alcohol-heavy formulas. They are different from fatty alcohols such as

  • cetyl and cetearyl alcohol, which help soften skin.

  • Oxybenzone, also called benzophenone-3: This UV filter can cause allergic reactions in some people. If you have reacted to it, ask about a suitable alternative.

These are considerations for individual skin tolerance, rather than a list of ingredients that are toxic to everyone. Approved sunscreen ingredients provide valuable protection, and the complete formula matters. Even naturally derived ingredients can cause reactions.

A little help understanding ingredients

The Yuka app can be a useful starting point when exploring skincare. Scan a product’s

barcode to see its ingredient information, rating and potential concerns according to Yuka’s assessment method.

Use it to help you ask informed questions. A Yuka score does not measure sunscreen

effectiveness or guarantee that a product will suit your skin. Always check the labelled SPF, broad-spectrum protection and water resistance, and seek personalised advice when needed.

Bring your questions to our Aqua Marine team. We can help you understand your products and choose a routine that supports your skin while providing the sun protection you need.

Nutritious food and hydration support skin from within.

Nourish your skin from within

Healthy skin needs nourishment.

Start with varied, balanced meals: colourful vegetables and fruit, enough protein, whole

grains and healthy fats. Think berries with breakfast, vegetables across your plate, and

protein sources such as fish, eggs, beans or tofu.

Supplements may help when there is a deficiency or a specific need, but more is not always better. Most nutritional needs can be met through a balanced diet. Before starting a “skin supplement”, speak with a qualified health professional about whether it is appropriate for you and compatible with any medicines you take.

At Aqua Marine, we encourage you to begin with your foundations and seek personalised advice where you need it.

Hydration and the quality of your water

Choosing quality drinking water and drinking regularly are simple ways to support your body.

A home filter can be useful for improving taste or addressing a particular water-quality

concern. Choose one for your water source and needs, and replace cartridges as directed.

Filters are not automatically necessary, and different systems remove different substances.

The most helpful habit is choosing safe water you enjoy drinking. Hydration supports normal body function, while moisturiser helps care for the skin barrier from the outside. Drinking extra water alone is not a treatment for every dry-skin concern.

Make room for recovery

Our Recovery Lounge offers space to slow down and enjoy some warmth, including our sauna experiences.

There is early research suggesting regular sauna use may support aspects of skin hydration and barrier function, but the evidence is limited. We would not promise that sauna dramatically detoxifies your body or clears a skin condition.

Enjoy sauna as a recovery experience suited to you. Hydrate, keep sessions comfortable and let our team know about any health concerns. Heat can aggravate some skin conditions, including rosacea, so personalised guidance matters.

Looking for that extra glow?

Perhaps you want to understand your skin better. Perhaps your routine needs a refresh, you are due for a skin check, or you would love some time dedicated to yourself.

Aqua Marine is here to help you take the next step.

Talk with our medical and skin team about a skin check, explore a personalised Synergie

routine with our dermal therapist, or discover a facial and recovery experience suited to you.

Any new, changing, bleeding or non-healing spot deserves medical assessment.

We believe caring for your skin should feel informed, achievable and nurturing — something you can carry into everyday life.
